Teyana Taylor, nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in One Battle After Another, had a tense encounter while leaving the 2026 Academy Awards. Videos circulating online show Taylor addressing a man whom she said had shoved her in a crowded exit area.

“You’re a man putting your hand on a female. You’re very rude,” Taylor told the individual, whose face was not visible in the clip. She added that another woman had nearly been shoved as well. Taylor was accompanied by her mother and co-star Chase Infiniti when the incident occurred.

Speaking later to reporters, Taylor said the situation arose during a hectic moment as security worked to clear the crowd. “Everybody was having a good time, security was just doing a lot. There’s always that one, but I’m perfectly fine. I’m happy,” she said. “At the end of the day, I just don’t tolerate disrespect, especially when it’s unwarranted and unprovoked.”

The incident occurred at the conclusion of a strong night for One Battle After Another, which won Best Picture. The film also took home awards for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Casting, and Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn, who was not in attendance. Taylor’s own nomination went to Amy Madigan for Weapons.

Taylor’s performance as Perfidia Beverly Hills in One Battle After Another had been widely praised. Critics highlighted her ability to convey subtle calculations through small gestures and expressions, making her a standout even in a large ensemble cast. While she did not win the award, Taylor’s reactions during the ceremony were enthusiastic and supportive of her fellow nominees, including the eventual winners.

Footage of Taylor’s confrontation and her animated celebration during the ceremony circulated online, leading some to question her behavior. Taylor addressed the reactions, saying that misinterpretations often arise in crowded, high-energy events. She emphasized that she had simply responded to an unprovoked shove and had otherwise spent the night celebrating her colleagues’ achievements.

Throughout the evening, Taylor remained engaged with the proceedings, applauding other winners and sharing moments of excitement with cast members. Her presence highlighted both her commitment to her film and her attention to personal boundaries, particularly in crowded public settings.

One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, was among the top contenders at the 98th Academy Awards, competing with films including Sinners, Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, and Train Dreams. Taylor’s nomination underscored her continuing rise in Hollywood, following years of acclaim for both her acting and musical work.

Despite the brief confrontation, Taylor left the Oscars in good spirits, celebrating the film’s multiple wins while making it clear that she would not tolerate disrespect. The incident added a rare note of tension to an otherwise celebratory evening for the cast and crew of One Battle After Another.
