Apple TV has set an official date for the premiere of the third season of Silo, continuing its adaptation of Hugh Howey’s bestselling dystopian novels with a new chapter that expands both forward and backward in time. The 10-episode season will debut with a single episode, followed by weekly releases through early September.

Led by Rebecca Ferguson, the show returns after the fallout of a rebellion inside the underground structure where 10,000 people live under strict rules.

Ferguson’s character Juliette Nichols survives her forced exile, a punishment known within the story as a “cleaning,” but returns with memory loss as the silo faces renewed instability and a new external threat.

The upcoming season introduces a parallel narrative set centuries earlier, shifting part of the story into what the show refers to as the “Before Times.” This earlier timeline follows a journalist and a congressman who uncover a conspiracy tied to the origins of the silo, setting off a chain of events with lasting consequences for the present day. The dual timeline shifts the focus beyond survival inside the silo and toward how the system came to exist. By moving between timelines, the season ties the collapse of the past to the rules that continue to shape life inside the silo.

“Silo” is set in a sealed underground society where residents are told the outside world is uninhabitable. The system is enforced through rigid laws and rituals, including sending individuals outside to clean sensors that display the external environment, a task widely understood as both punishment and sacrifice. Much of the tension comes from whether those rules protect the population or control it.

Renewed for a fourth and final season ahead of the premiere of season 3, Silo is set to conclude its adaptation of Howey’s trilogy under showrunner Graham Yost, cementing its place among Apple TV’s more established science fiction titles.

New cast members this season include Jessica Henwick and Ashley Zukerman, alongside returning ensemble players. The expanded timeline shifts the focus toward how the silo came to exist, rather than only life inside it.

The first episode of season three begins streaming on July 3 on Apple TV.
