A sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is officially in the works. Disney’s 20th Century Studios confirmed the news on June 30, posting a teaser on social media featuring an updated version of the film’s iconic red stiletto poster, this time with two heels, signaling the return of the beloved fashion drama.

The film is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, a date previously held by Avengers: Doomsday. Original cast members Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are confirmed to return. Kenneth Branagh has also joined the cast and is set to play Miranda Priestly’s husband. Anne Hathaway is also attached, though it remains unclear how her character, Andy Sachs, will factor into the storyline.

The sequel will once again be directed by David Frankel, with a screenplay written by Aline Brosh McKenna, who penned the original. Wendy Finerman is also returning as producer. Production began in late June.

Lauren Weisberger’s The Devil Wears Prada, published in 2003, became a publishing sensation and spent six months on The New York Times bestseller list. Drawing on Weisberger’s own experience working as a personal assistant at Vogue, the novel was translated into more than 30 languages and helped launch a franchise that continues to resonate in popular culture.

Plot details for the sequel, first reported by Variety, reveal that the story will follow Miranda Priestly as she navigates the decline of traditional magazine publishing. Emily, Blunt’s character, is now a high-ranking executive at a luxury fashion group, and the two women are set to clash over the industry's changing power dynamics.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is not expected to follow Revenge Wears Prada, the 2013 novel that served as a literary sequel. That book centered on Andy’s life a decade later, now the editor of a bridal magazine and planning her wedding. The film, by contrast, will introduce a new storyline shaped by the evolving realities of modern fashion media.

Though a sequel has long been the subject of speculation, confirmation of the project was first reported in July 2024 and now moves forward with the original creative team in place.
