The fallout surrounding Kanye West’s planned appearance at London’s Wireless Festival continues to escalate, with multiple major sponsors distancing themselves from the 2026 event amid growing scrutiny over the artist’s past public statements.

In the latest developments, global beverage company Diageo and Rockstar Energy have joined a widening list of partners withdrawing support. Their decisions follow an earlier announcement from Pepsi, which had served as a headline sponsor of the festival for nearly a decade.

Diageo confirmed its position in a statement, indicating that it had raised concerns directly with festival organizers and would no longer participate in the 2026 edition. While the company did not explicitly reference West in its statement, the timing aligns closely with public criticism of the booking. Rockstar Energy has similarly stepped back, though it has not issued a detailed public explanation.

The cumulative effect of these withdrawals is visible across the festival’s official platforms. Although the event is still being promoted under its previous branding, references to sponsors and partners have largely been removed. Companies that had previously been associated with the festival, including PayPal and Budweiser, are no longer prominently listed, and reports indicate that at least some of them will not return as partners this year.

The controversy has also drawn responses from senior political figures in the United Kingdom. Prime Minister Keir Starmer issued a statement expressing concern over West’s inclusion in the lineup, citing the artist’s previous antisemitic remarks and public controversies. Starmer emphasized that such issues should be addressed clearly and that public events have a responsibility to reflect broader societal values.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan echoed that position, noting that West’s past comments are “offensive and wrong” and do not align with the city’s stated commitment to inclusivity. Khan also clarified that the decision to book the artist was made independently by festival organizers and did not involve City Hall.

Despite the mounting backlash, Wireless Festival has not publicly commented on the sponsorship losses or the criticism surrounding its lineup. Tickets for the 2026 event are still expected to go on sale as scheduled, and the festival’s broader programming has not been altered at this stage.

The situation reflects a broader tension within the live music industry, where commercial partnerships are increasingly sensitive to reputational risk. Corporate sponsors, particularly those with global consumer bases, often face pressure to respond quickly when artists associated with major events become the subject of public controversy. In this case, the rapid succession of withdrawals suggests a coordinated effort by brands to distance themselves from potential backlash.

After several years marked by public controversy and professional fallout, Kanye West has recently resumed high-profile performances, including large-scale shows in the United States. His scheduled appearance at Wireless Festival would mark his first major U.K. performances in over a decade.

Wireless has historically been one of Europe’s most prominent urban music events, and its ability to proceed without key commercial partners may depend on how organizers navigate the current controversy in the weeks ahead.
