Actor David Schwimmer has publicly criticized Kanye West’s recent apology for past antisemitic remarks, calling it insufficient and urging additional corporate sponsors to withdraw from London’s Wireless Festival, where the artist is scheduled to headline in 2026.

In a detailed statement shared on social media, Schwimmer expressed support for companies that have already distanced themselves from the event, including Pepsi, PayPal, and Diageo. He described their decisions as examples of “moral clarity,” contrasting them with festival organizers who have chosen to proceed with West’s booking.

The actor argued that providing a platform for West, given his history of controversial and antisemitic statements, raises broader ethical concerns about accountability within the entertainment industry. While acknowledging that the rapper recently issued a public apology, Schwimmer questioned its sincerity, noting that similar apologies in the past have been followed by further inflammatory remarks.

Schwimmer’s comments come amid ongoing backlash surrounding West’s return to high-profile live performances. In recent years, the artist has faced widespread criticism for a series of public statements and actions, including antisemitic rhetoric and imagery that drew condemnation from advocacy groups, industry figures, and political leaders. Although West has since attempted to address the controversy, skepticism remains among critics who argue that meaningful accountability requires more than a written apology.

In his statement, Schwimmer outlined what he described as concrete steps that could demonstrate genuine contrition. These included publicly disavowing past material associated with antisemitic messaging, engaging directly with Jewish community leaders, and making financial contributions to relevant charitable organizations. Without such actions, he suggested, apologies risk being perceived as performative rather than substantive.

The actor also addressed the broader cultural response to West’s return, questioning why some artists and collaborators have continued to associate with him without publicly addressing his past behavior. He referenced recent appearances by musicians at West’s concerts, suggesting that silence on the issue may be interpreted as indifference or tacit acceptance.

Schwimmer further emphasized the impact of antisemitic rhetoric beyond the entertainment industry, stating that such language can contribute to real-world harm. He argued that public figures and corporations alike bear responsibility for the messages they amplify, particularly when those messages intersect with issues of discrimination and violence.

The controversy surrounding Wireless Festival has intensified in recent days, with political leaders in the United Kingdom also weighing in. Keir Starmer previously described West’s booking as “deeply concerning,” while Sadiq Khan stated that the artist’s past comments do not reflect the city’s values. Although neither official has direct authority over festival programming, their statements have contributed to mounting public pressure.

Despite the withdrawal of several sponsors, the festival is still scheduled to proceed, and organizers have not announced any changes to the lineup. Schwimmer, however, called on additional companies, including Budweiser and others, to reconsider their involvement, framing the issue as one of corporate responsibility rather than artistic preference.

This is not the first time Schwimmer has spoken out on the issue. In previous remarks, he criticized tech platforms for allowing West to continue sharing controversial content, arguing that greater accountability is needed across multiple sectors.

As West continues to reestablish his presence on major stages, the response from sponsors, artists, and public figures suggests that his return remains a point of contention rather than consensus.
