The future of Euphoria beyond its upcoming third season remains uncertain, as creator Sam Levinson confirmed there are currently no plans to continue the series further. His comments arrive shortly after lead actor Zendaya suggested that the long-delayed new season may serve as the show’s conclusion.
Speaking during the Season Three premiere event, Levinson emphasized that his immediate focus is on completing the current installment, rather than extending the series. He explained that his creative approach has always been to treat each season as if it could be the last, allowing for a more definitive and cohesive narrative structure.
“I want to finish this as strong as I can,” Levinson said, noting that post-production work on the final episodes was still underway at the time of the premiere. His remarks suggest a deliberate effort to ensure that the third season delivers a sense of closure, even in the absence of an official end-of-series announcement from the network.
Zendaya, who plays Rue Bennett, recently indicated in a televised interview that she believes the third season will mark the end of the show. While she did not provide specific details, she alluded to a narrative arc that moves toward resolution, describing a sense that “closure is coming.”
HBO has not formally confirmed whether Season Three will be the final installment. However, the alignment between Levinson’s creative stance and Zendaya’s comments has reinforced speculation that the series may be approaching its natural endpoint.
The new season premieres on April 12, following a four-year gap since the second season aired. That delay has been attributed to a combination of production challenges, scheduling conflicts among cast members, and broader industry disruptions.
Season Three will feature the return of much of the core ensemble, including Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, and Colman Domingo.
The season will be shaped by significant losses, including Angus Cloud, who portrayed Fezco, who died in 2023, and Eric Dane, known for his role as Cal Jacobs, who passed away earlier this year after filming his scenes.
Levinson acknowledged the emotional impact of these losses on the production. He described Cloud’s death as particularly difficult, noting his personal connection to the actor and the broader effect on the cast and crew. The creator indicated that the new season will incorporate elements intended to honor Cloud’s presence and legacy within the story.
Beyond its cast changes, Season Three is expected to explore more overtly philosophical and existential themes. Levinson referenced an interest in addressing questions related to faith, personal surrender, and the search for meaning, subjects that represent a tonal evolution from the series’ earlier focus on adolescence, addiction, and identity.
He also reflected on working with Eric Dane during production, noting that the actor remained committed to his role despite visible health challenges. Levinson described Dane’s performance as both professional and deeply human, suggesting that his scenes may carry additional emotional weight in light of his passing.
Since its debut, Euphoria has become one of HBO’s most culturally influential dramas, recognized for its stylized storytelling and unflinching portrayal of contemporary youth.
