Sabrina Carpenter has been granted a temporary restraining order against a man she says repeatedly appeared at her Los Angeles home, attempted to gain access to the property, and refused to leave despite being confronted by security.

According to court documents, the singer filed for protection after a series of incidents involving a man identified as William Applegate, whom she describes as having developed an alarming fixation on her. In a sworn declaration submitted to the court, Carpenter said the encounters left her fearing for her safety and caused what she described as significant and ongoing emotional distress.

A Los Angeles judge approved the temporary restraining order on Friday, requiring Applegate to remain at least 100 yards away from Carpenter, her residence, her vehicle, her workplace, and two additional people living at the property, including her sister.

The legal filing details several incidents that allegedly took place over recent weeks, culminating in what Carpenter described as an increasingly concerning pattern of stalking and surveillance.

According to her declaration, Applegate appeared at her residence on multiple occasions without invitation and allegedly attempted to convince security personnel that he knew the singer personally and had been expected at the home. Carpenter said those claims were entirely false.

“[Applegate] fabricated the outrageous and entirely false claim that he personally knew me and that I was expecting him,” Carpenter wrote. “This was a complete lie.”

One of the most serious incidents allegedly occurred on May 23. Carpenter claims Applegate entered a neighboring property in an effort to bypass security measures surrounding her home before making his way to her front door. Once there, she alleges he forcefully pushed down on the door handle in an apparent attempt to gain entry.

When he discovered the door was locked, Carpenter said he repeatedly knocked and rang the doorbell while refusing to leave the property. According to the filing, police were eventually called to the scene, and Applegate was arrested.

Carpenter described the incident as one of the most frightening experiences she has faced. “This is not the behavior of someone who stumbled upon my property by accident,” she wrote. “This is intentional stalking and surveillance directed at me and my residence.” The singer further stated that the alleged attempt to access her home represented a serious violation of her personal security.

In her declaration, Carpenter called the encounter one of “the most disturbing violations of personal safety and privacy” she has ever experienced. She also expressed concern about what she described as Applegate's belief that he knew her personally and was welcome at her residence, characterizing the behavior as irrational and potentially dangerous.

According to the filing, the situation did not end after the arrest. Carpenter alleges that Applegate returned to the area less than 24 hours later and remained outside her home for hours. She claims he returned again on May 25, parking near the property and monitoring activity around the residence.

The singer told the court that the repeated appearances made her fear the behavior was escalating: “His pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance has caused me severe and ongoing emotional distress, and I am in fear of what he may do if he is not restrained by this court,” she wrote.

Supporting Carpenter's request was a declaration from Los Angeles Police Department Detective Peter Doomanis, who stated that the behavior described in the filing matched patterns commonly associated with fixation-based stalking cases.

The detective further stated that the alleged conduct appeared to reflect the behavior of an obsessional individual whose actions had become increasingly focused on the singer over time. According to the declaration, investigators believe the conduct may have begun as early as April 2026. “The pattern of his conduct reflects the hallmarks of a fixated, obsessional individual,” Doomanis wrote, adding that such behavior is often associated with escalating risks to victim safety.

The court's temporary order remains in place pending a future hearing. A judge is scheduled to revisit the matter on June 17, when the court will determine whether the restraining order should be extended.

Meanwhile, Applegate is expected to appear in criminal court on June 18 following his arrest on a criminal trespassing charge connected to the alleged incidents.

Carpenter, who has become one of pop music's fastest-rising stars in recent years, included security camera images from her Ring system as part of the evidence submitted to the court. The singer argued that the repeated visits, alleged surveillance, and attempted access to her property demonstrated a pattern of conduct that could not be dismissed as accidental or harmless.

As the case moves forward, the temporary restraining order will remain in effect while both the civil and criminal proceedings continue.
