Ryan Gosling has signed on to star in the next feature from filmmaking duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, known collectively as Daniels, marking their first major project since the success of Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The untitled film is being developed at Universal Pictures, with production expected to begin in Los Angeles later this year. The studio has scheduled the release for November 19, 2027, after previously setting an earlier summer date.
The project will add to an already busy period for Gosling, who is set to headline multiple high-profile releases in 2027. Among them is Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy, which expands the long-running Star Wars franchise.
Gosling’s casting comes shortly after the commercial performance of his recent science-fiction film Project Hail Mary, which has delivered strong box office results both domestically and internationally, reinforcing his position as a leading draw in large-scale productions.
For the Daniels, the new film represents a return to directing following the breakout success of Everything Everywhere All at Once, which became one of the most celebrated films of 2022. The film, starring Michelle Yeoh, combined elements of science fiction, action, and family drama, ultimately earning more than $100 million worldwide and winning seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
Before that, Kwan and Scheinert made their feature debut with Swiss Army Man, an unconventional comedy that starred Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe. The film established the pair’s reputation for blending absurdist concepts with emotional storytelling, an approach that carried through to their later work.
The Daniels first gained wider attention in the music world through their direction of the viral video for Turn Down for What, which showcased their distinctive visual style and helped launch their transition into feature filmmaking.
The upcoming project will be produced under the duo’s overall deal with Universal through their production banner, Playgrounds. Producer Jonathan Wang, a frequent collaborator, is also attached to the film.
While no details have been released about the tone or genre of the new project, expectations are high given the directors’ track record and Gosling’s involvement. His recent choices have ranged from large-scale studio productions to more character-driven roles, suggesting flexibility in how the project could develop.
In addition to their directing work, Kwan and Wang have recently supported other projects through their producing efforts, including The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist, set for release through Focus Features.
Story details have not been disclosed, and the project remains in early stages of development.
