A civil lawsuit stemming from a highly publicized altercation involving DaBaby and the brother of singer DaniLeigh has been resolved, bringing an end to a legal dispute that had been moving toward trial for more than three years.
Court records filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court show that Brandon Curiel, the musician known professionally as Brandon Bill$, submitted a notice confirming that the parties had reached a settlement. The filing resolves the entire case, which was scheduled to go before a jury in October.
The lawsuit originated in February 2022, shortly after a physical confrontation inside Corbin Bowl, a bowling alley in the Los Angeles area. Curiel sued DaBaby, whose legal name is Jonathan Kirk, alleging that the rapper assaulted him during the incident and caused significant injuries.
The altercation drew widespread attention at the time due to the existing tensions between Kirk and DaniLeigh, with whom he shares a daughter. In the months leading up to the confrontation, the former couple's personal disputes had frequently spilled into public view through social media posts and livestreams, attracting intense scrutiny from fans and entertainment media.
According to allegations made in the lawsuit, Curiel became involved after taking issue with how Kirk had allegedly treated his sister publicly. Court filings claimed the encounter at the bowling alley escalated after Kirk approached Curiel and began making threats before the physical confrontation occurred.
A deposition transcript cited in the case alleged that Kirk approached Curiel aggressively and made comments suggesting he intended to physically confront him. Moments later, the situation allegedly escalated into a fight involving multiple people.
Video footage obtained by TMZ shortly after the incident appeared to show Kirk throwing a punch before a larger brawl broke out across several bowling lanes. The footage quickly circulated online and became one of the most widely discussed celebrity altercations of the year.
The confrontation lasted only a short time before security intervened, but the images generated significant media attention because of the public history between the parties involved. Despite the visibility of the incident and the viral nature of the footage, no criminal charges were filed, and no arrests were made.
Curiel's lawsuit named several defendants in addition to Kirk, including the Zeus Network, a private security company, and the bowling alley where the altercation occurred. The legal claims alleged various forms of negligence and liability related to the events of that evening.
With the settlement now finalized, the parties will avoid what likely would have been a closely watched trial. Given the high-profile nature of those involved and the existence of video footage documenting portions of the incident, the case had the potential to generate renewed public attention had it proceeded before a jury.
The resolution closes another chapter in a turbulent period for Kirk, whose career has experienced significant highs and lows over the past several years.
After emerging as one of hip-hop's biggest breakout stars in 2019, DaBaby quickly became one of the genre's most commercially successful artists, scoring multiple hit singles and platinum-selling projects. Songs such as Suge, BOP, and Rockstar helped establish him as one of rap's dominant voices during the late 2010s and early 2020s.
His momentum was later disrupted by controversy following comments he made during a performance at the Rolling Loud Miami in 2021. The remarks sparked widespread backlash and led to canceled appearances, public criticism, and a temporary decline in his visibility within the music industry.
In the years since, Kirk has worked to rebuild his career. Following a relatively quiet period after the release of Baby on Baby 2, the rapper returned earlier this year with the album Be More Grateful, signaling a renewed focus on music after a stretch in which legal disputes and public controversies often overshadowed his work.
The terms of the agreement were not disclosed, and neither side has publicly commented on the resolution.
