Police in England are investigating a couple accused of engaging in a sexual act aboard a Ferris wheel during last weekend's Download Festival, after videos of the incident circulated widely on social media.

The alleged encounter reportedly took place on Saturday evening at Donington Park, where tens of thousands of music fans had gathered for one of the festival's busiest nights. At the time, attendees were awaiting a headline performance from Guns N' Roses, who returned to Download as headliners for the first time in two decades.

Footage shared online appeared to show a man and woman inside one of the Ferris wheel's enclosed glass cabins engaging in intimate activity while the ride continued operating above the crowd. As the videos spread across social media platforms, the incident quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the festival, drawing reactions ranging from amusement to disbelief.

Leicestershire Police later confirmed that officers were aware of the footage and had launched an investigation to identify those involved.

"Officers are aware of a video on social media concerning two people acting inappropriately while on a Ferris wheel at Download Festival this weekend," a spokesperson said in a statement. "Enquiries into the matter remain ongoing and police are working to identify the individuals involved."

According to witnesses, the couple may have believed they were shielded from public view while inside the cabin. However, as the Ferris wheel rotated closer to the ground, it reportedly became clear to onlookers that the glass enclosure offered little privacy.

One festival attendee told the Daily Star that many people initially assumed the pair were simply embracing while taking in the view from the ride. As the cabin descended, however, spectators allegedly realized something else was taking place.

"At first people thought he was just standing behind her with his arms around her," the witness said. "But as it came lower, people started noticing more and more. They were in a glass pod right above thousands of people during one of the busiest moments of the entire festival."

The witness added that the incident quickly became a talking point throughout the crowd, diverting attention from the anticipation surrounding the upcoming Guns N' Roses set. According to the account, once videos began appearing and word spread among attendees, conversations throughout the area shifted almost entirely to what had allegedly happened on the ride.

The situation has also raised questions about public indecency laws in the United Kingdom. While public sexual activity is not automatically illegal in every circumstance, British law does prohibit certain forms of indecent exposure and public sexual behavior when visible to others.

Under provisions of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, individuals found guilty of indecent exposure can face criminal penalties, including fines and potential jail time. Legal outcomes depend on the specific circumstances of each case, including whether members of the public witnessed the conduct and whether authorities determine an offense occurred.

The investigation comes during another successful year for Download Festival, one of the United Kingdom's largest rock and metal events. Alongside Guns N' Roses, this year's lineup featured headlining performances from Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park, drawing fans from across Europe for the annual gathering.
