Miley Cyrus to Mark ‘Hannah Montana’ 20th Anniversary With Disney+ Special
Miley Cyrus is returning to the role that launched her career. The singer and actor will headline a Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, set to premiere March 24 on Disney+.
The special will be filmed in front of a live studio audience and will feature an extended interview between Cyrus and Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper. According to Disney, the program will also include previously unseen archival footage from the original series and recreated versions of some of its most recognizable sets, including the Stewart family living room and the signature Hannah Montana closet.
While Disney has not formally confirmed any musical performances, the press release suggested that music will play a role in the celebration, noting that “familiar notes” may return to the spotlight. During its original run, Hannah Montana produced several charting tracks, including “Nobody’s Perfect,” “Supergirl,” and “If We Were a Movie,” which became staples for a generation of Disney Channel viewers.
“Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am,” Cyrus said in a statement. “What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection. The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.”
The anniversary date carries particular significance: the show’s premiere episode, “Lilly, Do You Want to Know a Secret", first aired on March 24, 2006. The series introduced audiences to Miley Stewart, a teenager living a double life as an internationally famous pop star, a premise that quickly turned the program into one of Disney Channel’s defining hits of the 2000s.
The series ran for four seasons and helped establish Cyrus as a global figure in music and television. Its success extended beyond the small screen, spawning soundtracks, concert tours, merchandise, and a 2009 feature film. The character of Hannah Montana became central to Cyrus’ early career, even as she later worked to redefine her public image through more mature musical projects.
In recent months, Cyrus has hinted that she was developing something meaningful to commemorate the milestone. Speaking last July on SiriusXM’s TikTok Radio, she reflected on the show’s lasting impact: “I wanted to design something really, really special for it because it really was the beginning of all of this that now sits here today,” she said. “Without Hannah, there really wouldn’t be this kind of … this me.”
The anniversary special arrives at a moment when nostalgia-driven revivals and retrospectives continue to resonate with streaming audiences.
