Miley Cyrus is revisiting the series that launched her career in the first trailer for the upcoming Hannah Montana 20th anniversary special, which is scheduled to premiere this month on Disney+, exactly two decades after the show debuted on Disney Channel.

The preview shows Cyrus returning to recreated versions of the sitcom’s original sets, including the Stewart family living room, where much of the series took place. In one emotional moment, Cyrus reflects on the experience of stepping back into the environment that helped define her early career. “I’m already getting emotional,” she says in the trailer as she walks through the set.

The special also features appearances from members of Cyrus’ real-life family who were closely tied to the show. Her mother, Tish Cyrus, is shown accompanying her during the visit, while her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who portrayed her on-screen dad in the series, also appears. “This feels like home to me,” Cyrus says during a scene filmed inside the recreated house set.

The anniversary program was filmed in front of a live studio audience and will be hosted by podcast personality Alex Cooper. According to Disney, the special will include an extended interview with Cyrus, along with previously unreleased behind-the-scenes footage from the show’s original run.

In the trailer, Cooper tells Cyrus that Hannah Montana helped define a generation of young viewers. Cyrus responds by emphasizing that the anniversary is meant as a celebration not just of the show, but of the fans who supported it.

Disney first announced the project earlier this year. At the time, Cyrus reflected on the lasting impact the series has had on her life and career, describing the show as something that grew beyond its original premise.

“Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am,” she said in a statement. “What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans.”

She added that the anniversary special is intended as a way to thank longtime viewers who have continued to support her career long after the show ended.

The announcement also hinted that the special may include musical callbacks to the series. While no performances have been officially confirmed, Disney suggested that some familiar songs could be featured. During its original run, the show produced several popular tracks, including “Nobody’s Perfect,” “Supergirl,” and “If We Were a Movie.”

Hannah Montana aired for four seasons between 2006 and 2011 and became one of Disney Channel’s most successful live-action series. The show followed a teenager living a double life as both a normal student and a famous pop star, a concept that helped turn Cyrus into a global teen idol.

The series also featured guest appearances from major entertainers, including Dolly Parton, the Jonas Brothers, and Selena Gomez.

Since the show ended, Cyrus has built a music career that deliberately moved away from her Disney image, while still occasionally acknowledging the role Hannah Montana played in her rise to fame. The anniversary special appears to mark one of her most direct returns to that era.

The Hannah Montana 20th anniversary special will begin streaming on March 24.
