Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are reuniting once again, this time for a feature-length horror comedy that places the longtime collaborators in the middle of a classic monster story. The duo will produce and star in Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein, a project that blends their signature comedic chemistry with supernatural elements.

The actors revealed the news on Tuesday during an episode of Prime Video’s Good Sports With Kevin Hart & Kenan Thompson. Mitchell appeared as a guest co-host in Hart’s absence, and the pair used the opportunity to announce it on air. After briefly teasing a different, fictitious project, Thompson prompted Mitchell to share what he described as the real news: that they would soon be taking on Frankenstein’s monster.

While the on-air reveal was light on specifics, additional reporting indicates that Jonah Feingold is attached to write the screenplay. Production is expected to begin this summer, though no release date or additional casting details have been announced.

In a joint statement, Thompson described the film as an opportunity to expand their creative partnership into new territory. “Kel and I are always looking for projects that let us build on what audiences love about us, but also push into something different,” he said. Mitchell added that the film allows them to revisit the dynamic that first made them household names while experimenting with genre storytelling. “It’s familiar in spirit but different in setting,” he said, calling the project “funny, a little scary, and something fans haven’t seen us do before.”

According to a brief synopsis, Thompson and Mitchell will portray delivery drivers whose routine job takes a turn when they arrive at a mysterious castle and inadvertently awaken Frankenstein’s monster. What begins as an ordinary shift escalates into a fight for survival. The premise suggests a mix of physical comedy and suspense, drawing from classic horror tropes while leaning on the duo’s established rapport.

Thompson and Mitchell’s partnership dates back to the mid-1990s, when both performers were cast members on Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy series All That. Their popularity on the show led to the creation of Kenan & Kel, a sitcom centered on their comedic personas that ran for four seasons. In 1997, they transitioned to film with Good Burger, based on a recurring sketch. Though modestly received upon release, the movie became a cult favorite and a touchstone for a generation of Nickelodeon viewers.

The pair reunited on screen in 2023 for Good Burger 2, which revived their characters for a contemporary audience and capitalized on the wave of ’90s nostalgia that has shaped recent studio programming. The success of that sequel demonstrated that their comedic partnership continues to resonate decades after its debut.

Outside of their collaborations, Thompson and Mitchell have pursued distinct career paths. Thompson joined Saturday Night Live in 2003 and has since become the longest-serving cast member in the show’s history. Over more than two decades, he has established himself as one of the program’s most dependable performers, earning an Emmy Award for his work.

Mitchell has maintained a varied television presence, appearing in scripted series and reality competitions while frequently returning to projects connected to his Nickelodeon roots. Though their careers have diverged at times, both have periodically expressed interest in working together when the right project emerges.

Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein marks a tonal departure from their earlier collaborations, introducing horror elements into a partnership traditionally associated with youth-oriented comedy. The choice to center the story around one of literature’s most recognizable monsters places the film within a broader trend of reimagining classic horror characters through comedic lenses.

For Thompson and Mitchell, however, the project appears less about genre reinvention than creative continuity. Nearly 30 years after their first on-screen pairing, the two remain one of the more enduring comedy duos to emerge from 1990s television.

Filming is slated to begin later this year, with further details expected as production ramps up.
