Kali Uchis Cancels Guadalajara Show as Violence Spreads Following Cartel Leader’s Killing
A scheduled stop on Kali Uchis’ Sincerely Tour in Guadalajara has been canceled amid escalating violence across parts of Mexico following the reported killing of cartel leader Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes.
The Feb. 22 concert at Auditorio Telmex was called off by promoter Ocesa, which confirmed on social media that ticket holders will be refunded. Uchis later addressed fans directly, stating via Instagram Stories that she is safe and thanking those who expressed concern. Her next scheduled Mexican date, set for Feb. 25 at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, remains planned at this time.
The cancellation follows a major security operation in Jalisco state that reportedly resulted in the death of Oseguera Cervantes, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. The operation, conducted by Mexican authorities with U.S. intelligence support, marked one of the most significant actions against the organization in recent years.
In the immediate aftermath, multiple regions experienced coordinated acts of retaliation. Vehicles, public transportation, and businesses were set on fire, and road blockades were reported across roughly 20 states. The disruptions prompted heightened security alerts and led to the suspension of several public events.
The U.S. State Department issued guidance advising American citizens in affected areas to shelter in place until further notice. Local authorities have increased patrols in key urban centers, though transportation and public safety conditions remain fluid in parts of western Mexico.
Other performances scheduled for the same weekend were also canceled, including concerts by regional Mexican artists in Nayarit and Michoacán. Promoters cited security concerns as the primary reason for suspending events.
Oseguera Cervantes had long been considered one of the most powerful figures in global drug trafficking. His death is being viewed by analysts as a consequential development in Mexico’s ongoing effort to weaken cartel leadership structures. The event has drawn comparisons to previous high-profile operations targeting organized crime figures, including the recapture of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.
The operation occurs during a period of increased international pressure on Mexico regarding cartel activity. The Trump administration has publicly designated certain cartels as terrorist organizations and has suggested the possibility of direct action. Mexican officials have emphasized the importance of maintaining national sovereignty in any cross-border security coordination.
For touring artists and event organizers, the immediate issue is logistical and operational. Large public gatherings are often among the first events affected during periods of unrest, particularly in regions closely associated with targeted organizations. Guadalajara, located in Jalisco state, has historically been a focal point for cartel activity and enforcement operations.
Uchis’ tour includes multiple international stops, and promoters have not indicated whether additional dates may be subject to change. Decisions regarding upcoming performances are expected to depend on local security assessments in the coming days.
