Halsey has released a deluxe edition of their fifth studio album, The Great Impersonator, adding five previously unreleased tracks that further develop one of the most personal projects of their career.

The expanded version includes new songs titled “Carry the Weight,” “Lucid,” “Lessons,” “Nothing,” and “Charades,” along with a demo version of “Afraid of the Dark.” Some of the material had already been introduced to fans during Halsey’s recent live run, the For My Last Trick Tour, where early performances offered a preview of the album’s extended narrative.

In a statement accompanying the release, Halsey described the deluxe edition as a way of completing the creative arc they envisioned when the project was first conceived. “It was really important to me that you guys got every song I intended for you to hear in the TGI cycle,” they said, framing the additional tracks as a final extension of the album’s concept.

Originally released in October 2024, The Great Impersonator marked Halsey’s first project under Columbia Records following their departure from Capitol Records the previous year. The album arrived at a pivotal moment in the artist’s life and career, shaped heavily by serious health challenges. Halsey has spoken openly about being diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder during the album’s creation, circumstances that informed both the tone and structure of the record.

Conceived as a concept album, The Great Impersonator explores themes of identity, mortality, and performance, often blurring the lines between persona and reality. Halsey has suggested that, at one point, they believed the album might be their last, which contributed to the emotional intensity woven throughout the project. Lyrics from the newly released tracks continue that thread, with moments of vulnerability and confrontation that reflect both physical and psychological strain.

Despite its deeply personal foundation, the album’s commercial performance became a point of public discussion. In an earlier interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Halsey addressed industry expectations surrounding the record’s release. While The Great Impersonator reportedly sold around 100,000 copies in its first week.

The project has found renewed momentum through live performances. The For My Last Trick Tour has been described by the artist as the highest-selling tour of their career, signaling a strong connection with audiences despite the more introspective nature of the material. Songs like “Carry the Weight” and “Lucid,” now officially released, have already resonated with fans who experienced them in a live setting.
