Rising country artist Ella Langley made her debut at the Stagecoach Festival on Friday evening, delivering a performance that underscored her growing influence in the genre while also leaning into unpredictability, a hallmark of major festival moments. Appearing during the festival’s early evening “golden hour” slot, Langley performed in front of a large crowd that had gathered in anticipation of her set, widely seen as a breakout moment in her career.
Speculation ahead of the performance centered on whether Morgan Wallen might join Langley onstage to perform their recently released collaboration, I Can't Love You Anymore. Instead, Langley opted for a different kind of surprise, bringing out comedian Theo Von for an unexpected onstage appearance that quickly became one of the set’s most talked-about moments.
Langley’s performance began with selections from her recent projects, including Bottom of Your Boots and Broken from her album Dandelion, along with 20-20 from the deluxe edition of Still Hungover. The set balanced newer material with songs that have already built a following among fans, positioning Langley as both a commercial and touring artist.
Midway through the performance, Langley shifted tone, introducing what she described as “story time” to lead into her breakout hit You Look Like You Love Me. As she recounted a narrative about a late-night encounter on the road, Von entered the stage dressed in a denim shirt, jeans, and a straw cowboy hat, stepping into the role typically performed by Riley Green in the recorded version of the track.
Von delivered the spoken-word portion of the song, at one point declaring, “And that’s when I realized that she was every cowboy’s dream come true,” before joining Langley for the chorus. The performance drew an enthusiastic reaction from the audience, with fans singing along to the track’s central refrain. Von appeared fully engaged in the moment, moving energetically across the stage and interacting with Langley throughout the performance.
The cameo reflected a crossover moment between country music and comedy, underscored by Langley’s recent appearance on Von’s podcast, where the two discussed her career trajectory, her latest album, and the realities of navigating the music industry. As Von exited the stage, Langley acknowledged the unexpected nature of the collaboration, telling the audience, “Bet you didn’t expect that… Keep ’em guessin’!”
Langley closed her set with her chart-topping single Choosin' Texas and Weren't for the Wind, reinforcing the commercial momentum she has built over the past year. “Choosin’ Texas” marked a significant milestone in her career, reaching No. 1 simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, and Country Airplay charts. The achievement placed her alongside artists such as Post Malone and Shaboozey, while making her the first woman to accomplish the feat. The single has spent seven nonconsecutive weeks atop the Hot 100.
Langley’s rise has been several years in the making. After relocating to Nashville in 2019, she gained wider recognition five years later with “You Look Like You Love Me,” which earned Song of the Year honors at the 2025 CMA Awards. Her current success has translated into industry recognition as well, with seven nominations at the upcoming Academy of Country Music Awards, including Single of the Year and Song of the Year.
In a recent interview, Langley emphasized the importance of live performance in her career, describing it as a central goal.
