Doja Cat has publicly defended Chappell Roan following criticism the pop singer received after a viral video showed her confronting paparazzi in Paris. In a TikTok video lasting several minutes, Doja Cat spoke about her own mental health experiences and explained why she supports Roan’s decision to set boundaries in public.

In the video, Doja Cat said she has been dealing with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) for much of her life and has spent years in therapy. She clarified that she was not suggesting Roan has the same condition, but said she personally related to the pressure artists face to appear agreeable even when they feel uncomfortable.

She described learning from a young age to hide her true reactions in order to avoid conflict or criticism. According to her, seeing Roan openly show discomfort in stressful situations made an impression because it reflected a level of honesty she said she had to learn over time.

Doja Cat argued that showing visible discomfort does not mean an artist is being disrespectful. Instead, she framed it as a form of self-protection, particularly in situations involving constant public attention.

Part of Doja Cat’s comments focused on the reality of interactions between artists and photographers, particularly the presence of people she described as resellers, individuals who present themselves as fans to obtain autographs that can later be sold.

She explained that these situations can be misleading to the public because brief video clips may make it appear that an artist is ignoring genuine supporters, when in reality they may be trying to manage repeated or intrusive requests.

Doja Cat also noted that artists are often asked to take photos with autograph seekers as proof that signatures are authentic, which can further complicate these encounters.

Her overall point was that these moments are rarely as simple as they appear in short viral clips and that artists should be allowed to establish personal limits without being labeled as rude or ungrateful.

The discussion followed a widely shared video showing Chappell Roan asking photographers and bystanders for space while leaving a car in Paris. In the clip, she can be heard saying she felt she was not being treated like a person while trying to go to dinner and that she had already asked people to step back.

The moment sparked debate online, with some viewers defending her reaction and others criticizing her tone. Doja Cat’s comments were among the more prominent responses from another artist.

She argued that Roan had not harmed anyone by expressing frustration and suggested that being direct about personal boundaries should not automatically be seen as negative behavior.
