Chad Gilbert Undergoes Brain Surgery After Discovery of Three Tumors
Chad Gilbert, guitarist for New Found Glory, has revealed that he underwent surgery last month to remove three brain tumors, sharing an update on his recovery and ongoing health challenges.
In a statement posted to social media, Gilbert said the procedure took place on February 27, following a series of alarming symptoms that emerged earlier in the month. While performing at a show in Nashville, he noticed a loss of coordination on the left side of his body, including difficulty controlling his hand and increasing weakness in his leg. The symptoms worsened in the days that followed, prompting medical evaluation. A CT scan later confirmed the presence of three tumors in his brain.
Gilbert said he was admitted for surgery shortly after the diagnosis and has remained in recovery since the procedure. While describing the process as difficult, he noted that his condition has been improving. “Recovery has been bumpy,” he wrote, adding that he is now “feeling much better” and gradually regaining strength.
In his update, Gilbert shared that his medical team framed the situation as serious but not terminal. He quoted his radiation oncologist as describing the diagnosis as “not the end of your story,” but rather the beginning of a new phase.
The musician also expressed gratitude for the support he and his family have received, noting that he has not yet been able to respond to many messages due to limited phone use during recovery.
Gilbert’s latest health challenge comes after years of ongoing medical issues, including a history of cancer diagnoses and related treatments.
In the early 2010s, he underwent partial thyroid removal after doctors identified abnormal cells, though no cancer was ultimately found at that time. Nearly a decade later, in 2021, he was diagnosed with metastatic pheochromocytoma, a rare form of cancer that originates in the adrenal glands and had spread to other parts of his body, including his spine and lungs.
His treatment involved multiple major procedures, including the removal of part of his liver, his gallbladder, and one adrenal gland. In 2022, he announced that he was cancer-free following those interventions. However, his recovery has not been without setbacks.
Later that same year, Gilbert required additional surgery to remove a tumor from his spine. In 2024, he underwent further radiation treatment after doctors identified a new area of concern.
The recent discovery of brain tumors marks another chapter in what has been a prolonged and complex medical journey. Despite this, Gilbert’s public statements have emphasized resilience and a continued commitment to his music and personal life.
He indicated that he plans to return to creative work once his recovery allows, writing that he looks forward to sharing more music in the future.
Gilbert has been a key member of New Found Glory since the band’s formation, contributing to its role as a defining act in the pop-punk scene. His absence from recent performances has been noted by fans, though the band has not yet provided detailed updates regarding future touring plans.
