Bonnie Tyler’s family says the singer is no longer in a coma, but the Welsh music icon remains hospitalized and faces a lengthy recovery following emergency intestinal surgery.

In a statement released Monday, Tyler’s family confirmed that the 74-year-old singer is still being treated in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Portugal. While her condition has improved in recent days, relatives cautioned that her recovery remains ongoing and that doctors expect the process to take considerable time.

“Bonnie remains very unwell,” the family said in the statement, adding that her health is moving in a positive direction but improving slowly. According to her doctors, Tyler is expected to make a good recovery, though they have stressed that patience will be required as she continues receiving treatment and rehabilitation.

As a result of her condition, Tyler has been forced to cancel or postpone all scheduled performances through August. The singer had been preparing to spend much of the summer on the road as part of a European tour celebrating a major milestone in her career, but her family said continuing with those plans is no longer possible while she focuses on her recovery.

Where feasible, postponed dates will be rescheduled for next year. Other performances have been canceled entirely. The announcement is expected to disappoint fans who had planned to attend the anniversary tour, though Tyler’s family emphasized that her health must remain the priority.

The family also expressed gratitude for the support that has poured in since news of the singer’s medical emergency became public. Messages from fans, fellow musicians, and industry colleagues have arrived from around the world, offering encouragement during what has been a difficult period for the performer and her loved ones.

“We apologise to all of Bonnie’s fans and to our promoter partners for the disappointment that this will cause, but trust that you will understand and bear with us in these difficult circumstances,” the statement said. “We hope to see you next year instead.”

The family added that Tyler has been made aware of the overwhelming response from supporters and remains deeply appreciative of the messages she has received while recovering in the hospital.

Despite the setback, there is some optimism surrounding Tyler’s condition. Her family said they remain hopeful she could return to performing later this year if her recovery continues as expected. Under her current schedule, the singer’s next planned concert would take place on Oct. 23 in Bucharest, Romania, though any decision regarding her return to the stage will ultimately depend on medical advice and her overall progress in the coming months.

The canceled tour carried particular significance for Tyler, as it was intended to celebrate 50 years since the start of her recording career. The singer first emerged in the mid-1970s, releasing her debut single, “My! My! Honeycomb,” in 1976. Over the following decades, she became one of the most recognizable voices in pop and rock music, building an international career that has spanned multiple generations.

Tyler achieved worldwide fame in the 1980s with a series of chart-topping hits, most notably “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” which became a global phenomenon and remains one of the defining power ballads of its era. Written by Jim Steinman, the song topped charts around the world and helped establish Tyler as one of the decade’s biggest recording artists. Other hits, including “Holding Out for a Hero,” further cemented her place in popular music and contributed to a catalog that continues to resonate with audiences decades later.

In recent years, Tyler has remained an active touring artist, performing throughout Europe and maintaining a devoted fan base. The planned anniversary tour was intended to celebrate not only her longevity in the music industry but also the enduring appeal of songs that have become staples of classic pop radio.

Until then, Tyler’s supporters around the world are hoping the next update will bring further positive news as the legendary vocalist continues her recovery in Portugal.
