The family of Aaron Carter has reached a settlement with a Los Angeles psychiatry clinic in the wrongful death lawsuit tied to the singer’s 2022 death, resolving one major piece of the legal battle while other defendants remain headed for trial.

According to newly filed court documents, Amen Clinics and psychiatrist Dr. John Faber agreed to pay a confidential settlement to Carter’s family, bringing a full resolution to the claims against them. While the exact amount has not been disclosed, court filings indicate the figure falls roughly in line with the damages originally sought by the family, which totaled less than $325,000.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Carter’s young son, Princeton Lyric Carter, who is the late singer’s sole heir. At the center of the complaint were allegations that multiple medical professionals and pharmacies prescribed or supplied Carter with excessive amounts of Xanax in the months leading up to his death. His family argued that the prescribing practices contributed directly to the circumstances surrounding his fatal drowning in November 2022.

Attorneys representing Amen Clinics denied wrongdoing as part of the settlement filing, maintaining that the clinic met all applicable standards of care. They argued that Carter’s death was not caused by Xanax prescriptions, but instead by inhalation of difluoroethane, a chemical commonly found in aerosol products, which was linked to the official findings surrounding his death.

The case has already gone through significant legal back-and-forth. Last year, a Los Angeles County judge ruled that Carter’s son had the right to move forward with a jury trial over allegations that doctors and pharmacies “overprescribed” anti-anxiety medication to the singer. That decision allowed the broader wrongful death case to continue after multiple legal challenges from defendants.

While Amen Clinics and Dr. Faber are now out of the case, several defendants remain. Dentist Jason Mirabile, Walgreens, and Santa Monica Medical Plaza Pharmacy have not reached settlements and are currently scheduled to face trial in October. Attorneys representing those parties have either declined to comment or have not publicly responded.

Carter became one of the biggest teen pop stars of the late 1990s after launching his solo career at just nine years old. His self-titled debut album arrived in 1997, quickly introducing him to a global audience already familiar with his family’s music ties through brother Nick Carter and the Backstreet Boys. His commercial peak came with 2000’s Aaron’s Party (Come Get It), which went platinum and produced some of his best-known songs, including “I Want Candy” and the album’s title track.

He followed that success with Oh Aaron and Another Earthquake before stepping away from the level of mainstream visibility that defined the early boy-band era. His final studio album, Love, was released in 2018.

Carter died at age 34 at his California home in November 2022. As the remaining case moves toward trial, the settlement marks a significant development in the legal fight over the circumstances surrounding his death, but not the end of the broader dispute.
