Metallica will stage an eight-show residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas this fall, marking the band’s first performances at the high-tech venue. The run, titled “Life Burns Faster”, a reference to a lyric from “Master of Puppets”, will take place across four two-night engagements: Oct. 1 and 3; Oct. 15 and 17; Oct. 22 and 24; and Oct. 29 and 31.
Consistent with the band’s established “No Repeat Weekend” format, each two-night pairing will feature entirely different set lists. The group has indicated that the shows will combine staple material with deeper cuts and less frequently performed tracks, maintaining the structure they have used on recent tours.
Drummer Lars Ulrich said the idea of performing at the Sphere first crystallized when he attended the venue’s 2023 opening run by U2. “About 12 seconds into the opening night, I thought, ‘We have to do this,’” Ulrich said in a statement. He described the residency as an opportunity to rethink the band’s live presentation and audience interaction within the immersive environment.
Speculation about a potential Metallica residency began last year during Ulrich’s appearance on The Howard Stern Show. At the time, he confirmed that the band had discussed the possibility but emphasized that no agreement had been finalized. He acknowledged being impressed by the venue’s production capabilities and confirmed that members of the band’s management and production teams had toured the facility.
The Sphere, which opened in 2023, has become a focal point for large-scale residencies. Designed with wraparound 16K LED screens and an advanced spatial audio system, the venue was conceived as an immersive concert environment. Since U2 inaugurated the space, artists including Eagles, Phish, Dead & Company, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, and Backstreet Boys have mounted residencies there. Upcoming acts scheduled to perform include Illenium, No Doubt, and Carín León.
Metallica’s residency will follow a busy touring cycle supporting their 2023 album 72 Seasons. The band is set to perform across Europe this summer, with currently announced dates concluding in early July at London Stadium in England.
The Las Vegas run continues Metallica’s longstanding pattern of high-concept live events. Over the past decade, the band has performed on all seven continents, including a concert in Antarctica, collaborated with the San Francisco Symphony, and produced large-scale theatrical experiences such as the IMAX concert film Through the Never. More recently, the group appeared at Ozzy Osbourne’s final concert and performed a smaller promotional show in the Hamptons tied to their SiriusXM channel.
Single-night tickets and two-night “No Repeat Weekend” packages will go on sale March 6 at 10 a.m. PT. Fans can pre-register through the band’s official channels for presale access and travel package information.
