Megan Thee Stallion will conclude her run in Moulin Rouge! The Musical ahead of schedule, announcing that her final performance is set for May 1, more than two weeks earlier than originally planned. The Grammy-winning artist had been expected to remain with the production through May 17.
In a statement shared on social media, Megan expressed appreciation for her time with the cast and crew, describing the experience as meaningful and praising the effort required to sustain a live theatrical production. She also thanked fans, often referred to as “Hotties”, for their support during her stint in the show.
“It’s been such an honor to be part of thee Moulin Rouge family,” she wrote, adding that she had developed a deep respect for the dedication and stamina of those working in theater. The production has not yet announced who will take over the role following her departure.
Megan made history as the first woman to portray the character of Harold Zidler, traditionally written as a male role, reimagined for her casting as the club’s owner and master of ceremonies. Her participation in the production marked a notable crossover between mainstream hip-hop and Broadway, bringing a new audience to the long-running musical.
Her early exit follows a recent health incident that occurred during a performance. Nearly a month prior to the announcement, Megan was forced to leave the stage mid-show after experiencing symptoms that required immediate medical attention. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
According to a representative, doctors determined that the episode was caused by a combination of extreme exhaustion, dehydration, vasoconstriction, and low metabolic levels. The artist later confirmed that she had been pushing herself beyond her physical limits in the weeks leading up to the incident.
“Last night was a real wake-up call for me,” she wrote in a social media update following the hospitalization. “I’ve been running on empty, and my body finally said enough.” She added that she initially attempted to continue performing despite feeling unwell, but ultimately could not complete the show.
The decision to leave the production early appears to be tied to her recovery and a broader effort to prioritize her health after the scare. While she has not outlined specific next steps, her statement suggests she intends to regroup before returning to future projects.
The announcement also comes during a period of personal change for the artist. In recent days, Megan confirmed the end of her relationship with Klay Thompson, stating that issues related to trust and commitment led to the breakup. She described the decision as part of a larger effort to focus on her well-being and move forward with clarity.
Her departure from “Moulin Rouge!” leaves an open question for producers, who will need to identify a replacement for a role that had been significantly reshaped around her casting. The musical, which continues to be a major draw on Broadway, has frequently incorporated high-profile performers to refresh audience interest.
