Martin Short has postponed the remaining February dates of his comedy tour with Steve Martin following the death of his daughter, Katherine Short. She was 42.

According to the Los Angeles County coroner, Katherine Short died Monday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A representative for Short confirmed her death in a statement, describing the family as “devastated by this loss” and requesting privacy.

“It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” the statement read. “Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”

As a result, performances of The Best of Steve Martin & Martin Short scheduled for late February have been postponed. The tour had been set to resume Friday at Milwaukee’s Miller High Life Theatre, followed by a Saturday performance at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis. Both venues have posted notices indicating that the shows have been delayed and that tickets will be honored for rescheduled dates. New dates have not yet been announced.

The tour, which pairs the longtime collaborators in a live comedy format blending stand-up, conversation, and music, currently has dates scheduled through October. As of now, a March 13 performance at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., remains listed without any postponement notice.

Katherine Short was the eldest of three children adopted by Martin Short and his late wife, actress Nancy Dolman. Dolman died of ovarian cancer in 2010. In addition to Katherine, the couple shared two sons, Henry and Oliver.

Katherine earned a bachelor’s degree from New York University in psychology and gender sexuality studies in 2006, later obtaining a master’s degree in social work from the University of Southern California. She worked at UCLA’s Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital before entering private practice, according to published reports.

Martin Short, 74, has not made a personal public statement beyond the message issued through his representative. Steve Martin has also not commented publicly on the postponement.

Short and Martin have toured together for several years, building on a decades-long friendship and frequent collaborations in film and television. In recent years, they have co-starred alongside Selena Gomez in the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building, further expanding their joint audience.

The postponement comes during what had been an active touring period for the duo. Updates regarding rescheduled performances are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
