Jon Bon Jovi Says He’s Fully Recovered and Ready to Return to Touring
After years of uncertainty surrounding his vocal health, Jon Bon Jovi says he is finally ready to return to the stage.
The singer revealed in a recent interview that he has fully recovered from the vocal cord issues that forced him to step away from large-scale touring and is now preparing to launch Bon Jovi’s upcoming Forever tour. The announcement comes four years after he underwent surgery to address a damaged vocal cord, a procedure that led to an extended recovery period and raised questions about whether the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer would be able to resume performing at the level fans had come to expect.
The road back proved far more challenging than the singer initially anticipated. In recent years, Bon Jovi spoke openly about the frustrations of rebuilding his voice and the uncertainty surrounding his future as a touring artist. Rather than rushing back onto the road, he chose to focus on rehabilitation and recovery, determined to return only when he felt fully capable of delivering the performances audiences expected.
Throughout that process, he said the support of his longtime bandmates played a critical role.
Bon Jovi praised the members of the band for standing by him during the extended hiatus, noting that none of them considered moving on despite the lengthy pause in touring activity. According to the singer, the group's loyalty only strengthened the bond they had built over decades together. “They never doubted me and never looked for work or decided to retire,” he said. “The sacrifices that each one of them have made to be there for me is on a whole ‘nother level.”
The singer added that his appreciation for the group has grown significantly during the recovery process, describing their commitment as one of the most meaningful aspects of the experience. While the band’s future was uncertain for a period, he said they remained committed to waiting until he was ready to return.
Away from the spotlight, Bon Jovi says the forced break also changed his outlook on life. Rather than focusing on future plans or career milestones, he learned to become more present and appreciative of everyday experiences. He told the magazine that spending time with family, including his grandchildren, became especially meaningful during his recovery. Even simple moments, such as meeting new people and playing tennis near his Palm Beach, Florida home, took on a new significance.
That perspective shift comes as Bon Jovi prepares for one of the biggest returns of his career. The Forever tour is scheduled to begin with a residency at New York’s Madison Square Garden on July 7 before expanding internationally later this year. The band will then head to the United Kingdom and Ireland as part of a broader run of performances supporting , the group’s 2024 studio album.
The tour will mark Bon Jovi’s first major concert run since 2022. Although the band performed a handful of dates in 2024 and has occasionally appeared for shorter sets and special events, it has been several years since fans have seen the group embark on a full-scale tour. During that period, Jon Bon Jovi largely limited his public performances while focusing on rehabilitation.
The upcoming shows will also give the band an opportunity to properly celebrate Forever, an album that arrived while questions about the singer’s touring future still lingered. With the uncertainty now behind him, Bon Jovi says there is a renewed sense of gratitude surrounding the return.
“There is a lot of joy in this announcement,” he said when the tour was first unveiled. “Joy that we can share these nights together with our amazing fans and joy that the band can be together.”
