Fetty Wap has spoken publicly for the first time about the support he received from 50 Cent while serving a federal prison sentence, saying the veteran rap star provided both financial assistance and emotional guidance during a difficult period of his life.

In his first interview since being released from custody, Fetty Wap said 50 Cent reached out early in his incarceration and remained consistently involved throughout his time behind bars. “From day one, it was like, ‘Whatever you need, just let me know,’” Fetty recalled. He added that the experience was unfamiliar, noting that he was more accustomed to being the one offering help rather than receiving it.

According to Fetty Wap, 50 Cent maintained regular contact, checking in on practical matters as well as his mental well-being. “He answered the phone. He didn’t disappear,” Fetty said, adding that the support extended even to logistical concerns as his release approached. “As far as financial and mental help, he was probably there more than anybody.”

50 Cent later shared a clip of the interview on Instagram, writing that Fetty Wap was “ready to work” and signaling his intention to continue supporting him as he transitions back into civilian life.

Fetty Wap was released last week from a federal prison in Minnesota, where he had been serving a six-year sentence related to a drug trafficking conspiracy. He will complete the remainder of his sentence under home confinement in New Jersey, which is scheduled to conclude on Nov. 8, according to sources familiar with the matter.

In a statement following his release, Fetty Wap said his focus has shifted toward family and community-based initiatives. He expressed plans to expand efforts aimed at supporting at-risk children, particularly in areas related to education and vision care. “I’m committed to moving forward with purpose and making a meaningful impact where it matters most,” he said.

The rapper, whose legal name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, pleaded guilty in 2022 to one count of conspiracy to possess and distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine. He was originally arrested by federal authorities at Rolling Loud New York in 2021 and was among several individuals accused of participating in a large-scale drug distribution operation spanning New Jersey and Long Island. He received his sentence in May 2023.

Since his release, Fetty Wap has indicated that he is taking a measured approach to reentering the music industry, prioritizing stability and long-term planning. The public acknowledgment of 50 Cent’s involvement highlights a quieter but significant form of mentorship within hip-hop, one that, for Fetty Wap, appears to have provided both practical support and a sense of accountability during a pivotal chapter of his life.
