Olivia Rodrigo's first attempt at launching her own music festival proved to be an instant success, with tickets to her newly announced Daisy Chain Fields festival selling out in just half an hour. As of June 24, every ticket tier for the event has moved into waitlist status, leaving countless fans hoping for a chance to attend the inaugural gathering. The festival is set to take place on Aug. 29 in Irvine, California, and will feature a lineup composed entirely of women artists, a deliberate curatorial choice that has generated significant buzz since the announcement.

The roster Rodrigo assembled spans generations and genres in a way that reflects her own wide-ranging musical influences. Stevie Nicks, Bikini Kill, Mitski, Doechii, and Chappell Roan headline a bill that also includes Garbage, Die Spitz, Eli, KATSEYE, Not for Radio, Quiet Light, Rachel Chinouriri, Santigold, and the Breeders. It's a lineup that blends veteran rock acts with some of the most buzzed-about names in current pop and alternative music, suggesting Rodrigo built the festival around artists who have shaped her own artistic sensibility.

Rodrigo first revealed her plans for the festival on Instagram on June 22, describing the lineup as filled with both personal heroes and friends. In her announcement, she expressed her belief that joy, community, and music could serve as meaningful forces for positive change, and said she was eager for the experience the festival would create. That sense of purpose extends well beyond the music itself: every performing artist is donating their time for free, and proceeds from the event will benefit a wide range of nonprofit organizations focused on supporting women and girls, including Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, the Center for Reproductive Rights, Planned Parenthood, the National Women's Law Center, and several others.

In an interview with Pitchfork, Rodrigo elaborated on the motivation behind the project, explaining that none of the involved artists are making any profit from their participation. She said she felt a need to create something genuinely positive for young fans to experience, particularly young girls who could benefit from seeing strong female role models supporting one another through a shared, joyful, music-centered event.

The festival's roots trace back to Lilith Fair, the influential all-female touring festival from the 1990s that Rodrigo has cited as a major source of inspiration. During an appearance on Good Morning America, she told Diane Sawyer that Lilith Fair played a significant role in her decision to launch Daisy Chain Fields, and revealed that the very first phone call she made when deciding to move forward with the festival was to Sarah McLachlan, the singer-songwriter who originally founded Lilith Fair. Rodrigo described McLachlan as a trailblazing artist and a friend, and confirmed that McLachlan will make an appearance at the new festival.

The festival announcement comes on the heels of Rodrigo's third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which she released earlier this month. The record includes the previously released singles "Drop Dead," "The Cure," and "Stupid Song," along with the duet "What's Wrong With Me," which features a collaboration with the Cure's Robert Smith. In its review of the album, Rolling Stone noted that while Rodrigo has long worn her Nineties rock and riot grrrl influences openly, drawing comparisons to bands like Hole and Babes in Toyland on earlier projects, this latest record goes further by constructing a sound expansive enough to accommodate her musical idols directly within it.
