In a wide-ranging podcast appearance, Courtney Love revisited her decades-long and often contentious relationship with Dave Grohl, urging the Foo Fighters frontman to publicly confirm what she believes is a private truce between them.

Speaking on The Magnificent Others, hosted by Billy Corgan, Love reflected on tensions that date back to the early 1990s, when she was married to Kurt Cobain, and Grohl was a member of Nirvana. Their relationship has remained strained in the decades since Cobain’s death, marked by intermittent public disputes and periods of relative quiet.

During the conversation, Love suggested that while she and Grohl are no longer in active conflict, he has not publicly acknowledged that shift. “Just say we’re cool,” she said, framing the issue as one of perception rather than ongoing hostility. According to Love, Grohl’s reluctance to address their status openly may be tied to concerns about how it could be received by his audience or peers.

The comments reference a moment widely seen as a turning point in their relationship: the 2014 induction of Nirvana into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At the ceremony, Love appeared alongside Grohl and surviving band members, signaling a rare moment of unity after years of public friction. While the event was interpreted by many as a reconciliation, Love’s remarks suggest that, from her perspective, the détente has not been fully affirmed in public.

Love also alluded to broader dynamics around media narratives and fan culture, arguing that criticism directed at her has persisted disproportionately. She pointed specifically to generational differences, suggesting that younger audiences are less inclined to engage in the kind of sustained scrutiny she associates with earlier online discourse.

The conversation touched on Grohl’s relationships within the music industry, including his collaborations with Paul McCartney. Love implied that Grohl’s public positioning may be influenced by those associations, though she did not provide specific examples. She also revisited her past criticism of a 2012 Hurricane Sandy benefit performance that featured Grohl, McCartney, and surviving members of Nirvana, an appearance that drew mixed reactions at the time.

Elsewhere in the interview, Love claimed that Grohl had referenced her in multiple songs, describing the approach as reductive. She did not identify specific tracks, but reiterated her longstanding frustration with how she has been portrayed in relation to Nirvana’s legacy and its members.

Corgan, who has had his own complicated history with Love, offered a more conciliatory perspective during the discussion. He said that in his experience, Grohl does not harbor personal animosity toward her, suggesting a disconnect between private interactions and public narratives. Love, however, maintained that the absence of a clear, public acknowledgment continues to shape how she is perceived.

Neither Grohl nor his representatives have publicly responded to Love’s latest comments.
